When I heard that the Target stores in Canada were closing down, I was really upset! There was something about that store, especially the makeup aisles which made me so happy. They carried several brands that were not in other drugstores in Canada at the time. Of course now we are slowly starting to see a few of those brands make their way to Shoppers Drug Mart and Pixi Beauty is one of their latest additions as of January 2017!
The Pixi Beauty counter at Shoppers Drug Mart at the Chinook Mall is quite a small one but it does carry an assortment of makeup and skincare. I was sure that I wanted to try the popular Glow Tonic that has been everyone’s favourite. But other than that I was on the look out for a nice blush which I did not find. I was also in a hurry so I ended up going for an eyeliner and an eyeshadow palette.
The Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic has received a lot of hype in the world of beauty blogging and YouTube. I wanted to know what the fuss was all about so I had to try it. The Glow Tonic is essentially a liquid exfoliator which sweeps off dead skin, build up, oil, dirt etc. to make way for healthy & glowing skin. This tonic reminds me of the Clinique Clarifying Lotions which are based on the same concept.
I picked up the smaller 100 ml bottle ($20.00) because it is my first time trying out the product and I did not want to invest in a full size just yet. I thought the price tag of $20.00 was quite high tbh! Anyway, I don’t know how I feel about the product yet. I have tried it a few times but I am not a fan of the fragrance. I think I will still give it a few tries and then let you know if it’s worth the hype for me.
The Endless Silky Eye Pen ($16.00) in the shade Deep Plum is a waterproof eye pencil. I don’t have an eyeliner in this shade which is why I picked this one up. I really love the formula, it is pigmented (see swatch below), smooth and glides on. I like that it is waterproof because my eyes are usually watery and sensitive.
The Mesmerizing Mineral Palette ($16.00) in Copper Peach has 6 shadow shades inspired by gemstones. I love the colour selection in this palette. The quality of the shadows are great but I did feel like I needed to build layers for more intensity. I wore the eyeshadows to work and they lasted for more than 7 hours which I thought was great. The size of the palette is great for travel but it lacks a mirror and the double-ended sponge applicator could be replaced by a small dual ended brush. Because who uses the sponge applicators anymore?
Overall, I think that the price points are a bit high for these products. The eyeliner and eyeshadow palette were both $16.00 which seems quite odd. The quality is pretty good anyway. So, I will definitely continue using both the makeup items I picked up but I am not sure if I will pick up another bottle of the Glow Tonic. I would say everyone’s skin is different so for some this might be a holy grail product but maybe not for me.
Have you picked up any Pixi Beauty goodies yet? Are there other products you would recommend I try?
